CNN —The Brooklyn Nets have relieved head coach Jacque Vaughn of his duties, the team said in a statement, with the franchise set to name an interim replacement in the “near future.”Amid earlier reports that Vaughn had been fired, the Nets released a statement on Monday confirming the decision. The team is 21-33 this season and currently sits 11th in the Eastern Conference, just outside of a Play-In Tournament spot. “This was an incredibly difficult decision, but one we feel is in the best interest of the team going forward,” Nets General Manager Sean Marks said. The NBA's In-Season Tournament starts Friday, after years of planning by Commissioner Adam Silver to have a second trophy for teams to compete for during the season.
